The Not-So-Aesthetic Reality of Your 20s — And Why That’s Actually Pretty Cinematic

Your 20s are supposed to be the most exciting decade of your life, right?

But honestly?

Some days feel like a scene from a movie.
And some days feel like sitting in your room, staring at the ceiling with a cup of coffee, thinking, “Am I doing this right?”

Let’s be honest—your 20s aren’t always the cute Instagrammable montage we imagined at 16.
It’s not all wine nights, weekend getaways, or aesthetic work-from-cafes.
Sometimes, it’s just unfinished coffee at 2 AM, switching between five tabs trying to feel productive, and wondering if this was really what adulthood was supposed to feel like.

It’s that weird middle ground where you’re not a teenager anymore, but you also don’t exactly feel like an adult.
You’re building your life—career, relationships, confidence, identity—from scratch, while lowkey pretending you already have it all figured out.
Some days, you’re crushing deadlines and making vision boards.
Other days, even replying to a text feels like a chore.

I’ve realised your 20s aren’t always exciting.
They’re not always Instagrammable.
They’re not always making-sense.

Sometimes you wake up feeling like you’re running behind — but on what, you don’t even know.
Sometimes you get through an entire week and still can’t explain what you actually did.

You scroll past someone announcing their new job, engagement, or trip to Paris —
while you’re sitting in your pajamas, trying to decide between applying for internships or just taking another nap.

And all of that? That doesn’t mean you’re failing.
That just means you’re living.

We’re sold this hustle-glam life—rise and grind, be a boss, glow up, don’t stop till you drop, etc.
But behind every ‘that girl’ reel is someone who probably also cried on the bathroom floor last Thursday over something they can’t even explain.

Everyone around you seems to be “figuring it out.”
But behind the scenes?
They’re just as unsure as you are.

Your friend who posts 7 AM gym selfies — she’s overwhelmed too.
Your cousin who started a business — she has no idea what she’s doing some days.
And that girl on LinkedIn with the polished captions? She has panic days too.

No one is fully sorted.
Some are just better at curating the chaos.

So if your 20s don’t look like a highlight reel —
If they’re full of half-finished plans, quiet overthinking, and a playlist you keep changing —
That’s okay.

Some days will feel like a rom-com montage.
Others will feel like a scene where nothing happens — just you, sitting on your bed, rethinking everything.
But even that… that is part of the plot.

You don’t need a grand breakthrough right now.
You just need to live the scene you’re in — however ordinary it feels.

Because years from now, this won’t look like confusion.
It’ll look like becoming.

And that, honestly?
Is pretty cinematic too.
